Department of Climate Corrections: explores the unique risks incarcerated individuals face due to extreme heat. A study found that between 2001 and 2019, 635 deaths in prisons were attributable to extreme heat. Orange is frequently used in infographics on extreme heat and is also associated with prison jumpsuits. This project features an orange jumpsuit screen-printed with 2.5°C Dept. of Climate Corrections emblazoned on the back. The jumpsuit is presented in a triptych photograph alongside a t-shirt headwrap hand embroidered with blue thread and beads, visualizing sweat. The project was exhibited at the Gainesville Fine Arts Association 4th Biennial National Juried Exhibition focused on extreme heat and received an award of excellence.
